A Photographer’s Perspective: Why I Fell in Love With Super 8 Wedding Films
I didn’t come to Super 8 because I was bored with photography.
I came to it because photography taught me how much feeling matters.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve spent years learning how to see light, anticipate moments, and recognize when something meaningful is about to happen. Photography trained my eye—but Super 8 changed how I experience weddings.
Photography Taught Me to Look. Super 8 Taught Me to Feel.
Photography freezes a moment.
Super 8 lets it breathe.
The first time I filmed a wedding on Super 8, I realized how differently I was paying attention. I wasn’t chasing perfection or waiting for the “right” pose. I was watching for movement, emotion, and the way moments flowed into one another.
It felt less like documenting and more like remembering.
It Slowed Me Down in the Best Way
Digital photography is fast—and I love that about it.
But Super 8 asks you to slow down.
Every second of film matters. There’s no overshooting. No constant checking. You have to trust your instincts and be fully present with what’s unfolding.
As a photographer, that intentionality felt grounding. It reminded me why I fell in love with weddings in the first place.
It Changed How I See a Wedding Day
Super 8 doesn’t care about perfection.
It cares about:
Light moving across a room
Wind catching fabric
A glance held just a second longer than expected
Those are the moments that tend to slip past unnoticed—but they’re the ones couples feel most deeply years later.
Super 8 gave me permission to prioritize those moments again.
It Complements Photography Instead of Competing With It
I never saw Super 8 as a replacement for photography.
Photography is still essential—it creates the images you frame, print, and pass down.
Super 8 fills in the spaces between those frames.
Together, they tell a fuller story—one that feels layered and alive.
It Feels Honest
There’s something incredibly honest about Super 8.
The grain. The softness. The unpredictability.
It doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. And that honesty mirrors how memory actually works.
As a photographer, that authenticity resonates deeply with me.
Why I Still Choose It
In a world that constantly pushes for faster, sharper, more polished content, Super 8 stands its ground.
It reminds me—and my couples—that not everything meaningful needs to be perfect.
Some things just need to be felt.
And that’s why I fell in love with Super 8.
